IMPLANT DENTISTRY
The crème de la crème solution for the replacement of missing teeth
Dental implants are the ultimate treatment for creating your dream smile where you are missing one or more teeth. Our implants have the structure, feel and appearance of a natural tooth so much so that often our patients tell us they can't remember which tooth is the implant.
THE BENEFITS OF A DENTAL IMPLANT
- They replicate the structural strength, look and feel of a natural tooth
- The health of adjacent teeth is preserved
- Maintains the bone structure and prevents bone loss
- Bite force is distributed evenly throughout the mouth
- Stops the teeth from shifting
- They are permanent, however they can be replaced should damage occur
OUR DENTAL IMPLANTS USE A THREE PART STRUCTURE THAT MIMICS YOUR NATURAL TEETH
- A titanium implant integrates naturally with the bone as the bone structure grows onto the implant itself holding it securely in place
- An implant abutment connects the crown to the implant just as periodontal ligaments connect a tooth's root to the bone
- A ceramic crown is then connected which mimics a natural tooth structure and appearance
WE CHOOSE THE RIGHT IMPLANT SYSTEM FOR YOU
Our philosophy at Alluring Smiles is that there is no 'one size fits all' approach to dentistry and this includes our implant treatments. We choose from the three most technologically advanced and proven implant systems to select the most appropriate and individually suited system in order to achieve the best result for you.
IMPLANTS vs BRIDGES AND DENTURES
The benefit of dental implants over bridges or dentures is significant. Bridges and dentures can cause damage to adjacent teeth by putting additional force on the teeth, potentially accelerating their failure. Healthy teeth may need to be shaved and reshaped in order for them to be used to anchor a bridge. Not only can this affect the longevity of the teeth used but it can also lead to the non aesthetically pleasing effect of dark shadows around the bridge as with time the bone and gums separate from the anchor teeth. With bridges there is also a risk of bacteria finding its way between a gap between the tooth and the bridge if cleaning is not adequate. With dental implants all of these problems disappear.
DENTAL IMPLANT SUPPORTING TREATMENTS
Our periodontist specialises not only in dental implants but also the complex procedures that may be required in order to be able to place an implant. These supporting treatments may be required because there is insufficient bone to structurally hold the implant. We will do an in depth consultation to ensure that prior to beginning any implant treatment it is clear whether more extensive procedures are required. We will communicate closely with you throughout to ensure that you understand and are comfortable with every treatment we suggest and if agreed upon then carry out.
BONE GRAFTING
Bone grafting is a supporting treatment to dental implants which can be used when required. In instances where a dental implant is desired but there is insufficient bone remaining in your mouth to support the dental implant we can replace the bone using bone grafting. The most common cause for needing a bone graft is when the tooth was removed a long time prior to wishing to have the dental implant placed.
SINUS LIFTS
A sinus lift may be required where there is insufficient bone in the upper arch of the jaw to place a dental implant. A sinus lift is a complex surgical procedure where the floor of the sinus cavity is lifted in order to create more height for the implant in the upper arch of the jaw.
